breakfast burrito master

a few nights ago dave made breakfast burritos for dinner and they were amazing. seriously, he went above and beyond and has officially been deemed the breakfast burrito master, hereby taking care of all future breakfast burrito needs in the wessler home. by the way, this was a totally random post.

darling dave

i'm sure my husband will be embarrassed about the title of the post but it's true! of all of the wedding presents that we received i think dave was most excited about the magic bullet. it's this little blender/mixer thing that can make everything from muffins, to pasta sauce, to smoothies, to hummus, to dips and the list goes on and on.

i started hearing about the magic bullet while we were dating and when i opened it up at a bridal shower i knew dave would be thrilled. so monday night dave decided to make chicken salad and salsa for dinner with the magic bullet. being magic bullet novices it didn't turn out exactly as we expected , but i'm sure with a little more practice we will be pros. here is dave modeling the bullet.

in action...

later that night we were going through some of our presents and this is what i turned around to find...

i was laughing so hard. truly my life will never be boring!! this was the bag our kitchenaid came in when it was shipped (thanks ry, lynda and kim family), but obviously it can hold more than just the kitchenaid. it actually looks just like a santa bag. fun times in the wessler house!

coming home

coming back to reality after our honeymoon was a little rough, but something that made it a little easier was coming back to some darling kids. the day after we got home we went to my parents house to say goodbye to my sisters and their families before they headed back to utah and california. it was so great to see them and the cute kiddos. dave only met my 2 nieces and 6 nephews (and my sisters and brother in laws) the day before we got married (and now they're his too). but he quickly won their hearts by making them balloon animals, bringing real light sabers for my nephews to play with who are major star wars fans and even showed up with a stuffed animal for lexi. needless to say the kids loved him!

something else that made it fun to come back...presents! we had so much fun opening our presents and seeing all the fun stuff we got. thanks so much to all our generous friends and family!

one of our first meals back home as a married couple. dave actually made it and even surprised me with a rose. i have the sweetest husband ever and feel so blessed to be married to him (and not just because he cooks and brings me flowers)!

honeymoon in cancun!!

i am FINALLY posting pictures from our honeymoon. i've been slow but at least it's finally happening. we left bright and early the day after we were married to fly to cancun for our honeymoon...a little more bright and early than we would have preferred. luckily we stayed in a hotel by the airport and a hotel shuttle took us and dropped us off at our gate so we could sleep a little longer. now in case you are worried when i mentioned cancun, we were there a couple weeks before they started getting slammed by hurricanes (lucky us) and the weather was perfect. we stayed in a beautiful all-inclusive resort and the week couldn't have been more fantastic. we took advantage of the many restaurants and room service (you could literally get food any hour of the day), the pool complete with a swim up bar (we made the most of the free drinks...we was addicted to pina coladas and daiquiris...virgin of course), incredible nightly shows (latin night with amazing dancers...i wish i could dance like them, traditional mexican night with mexican dancers and even a mariachi band and saturday night fever complete with guys in bell bottoms that were way too tight). it was a great place (props to dave and his dad for finding it).
the entrance to our resort. we were so psyched when we drove up to it

the pool and the ocean. we loved laying by the pool.

i'm a little embarrassed about my crazy bangs, but i had to post the picture because the beach was so pretty.

a really cool outdoor restaurant at the resort (notice the pina coladas)

we were there for a rodizio-style dinner night where they came around with all different types of meat on skewers. it was sooo good!

i told you i loved the pina coladas! i think i had at least 2 (or 3) almost every night for dinner, not to mention the pina coladas or daiquiris we got at the evening shows and the pool. let's be honest, we drank a lot!!

a night of shopping in downtown cancun. we discovered this really cool outdoor mall.

we went on a really cool mayan adventure excursion. we started out kayaking. we were racing against the 3 other couples that were on the excursion with us. unfortunately we lost which was especially disappointing since the winners got free shots of tequila. we'll have to work on our kayaking skills (ok, i'll have to work on my kayaking skills) so we can win the tequila next time :o)

after the kayaking we hiked through the jungle notice our hardcore guide in the camo!

we hiked to a cenote, an underground freshwater sinkhole/cave. before we went into the cenote we received a blessing from a mayan shaman in his native language to purify us since the cenote is sacred.

the entrance to the cenote

going down...the cenote was incredibly beautifulour grand entrance

after swimming for a little while we hiked back out and drove to our next adventure... zip lining! both dave and i enjoyed the speed and didn't use our wooden hook shaped brake to slow us down until the last minute. if we wouldn't have used the brake in time the padded pole would have stopped us!

i was especially proud of dave because he isn't the biggest fan of heights...but he is always up for an adventure. does he look a little worried? maybe the padded pole was coming a little too fast!

helmet heads!

repelling time! it was my first time and i was really excited!

after repelling and lunch at a local mayan village we headed to the ruins at coba. this temple is the tallest temple in the area and one of the few you can still climb on. we rented these old school mountain bikes from the main part of the village and rode to the main temple. it was SOO hot that the breeze felt good. we were definitely sweaty by the time we climbed to the top.

the view from the top

heading down...it was a little steep

we had such a fun time seeing some of the sites in the area. we also went to a water park one morning and rode some fun water slides. probably our favorite part was the lazy river...although it wasn't necessarily relaxing since we were playing tag and running through the river. we also swam with the dolphins which was so fun. i wish we had bought a waterproof camera to capture the fun. the dolphins are trained to kiss you on the cheek for a picture but when it was my turn pablito, our dolphin, went straight for my lips. i think it surprised the trainer and it definitely surprised me. dave didn't know how he felt about a dolphin getting fresh with his wife! we had such a fantastic honeymoon! it was a great way to start out our new life together!

rednecks go hiking!

the title was dave's idea. when i got home from a class at the gym yesterday morning i found him with some pretty "interesting" facial hair...a cross between hulk hogan and our backwood friends in mississippi.
because the weather was so beautiful we decided to go on an afternoon hike to st. mary's glacier. it was a pretty easy hike (especially compared to our last couple of hikes). it was really beautiful. here is dave by the lake created by the run-off from the glacier.

us on the snow field. it was crazy to climb on snow in september. dave has gotten so good at the go-go gadget (one) arm pictures since i have him take them of us so often. below is the proof!

there were snowboarders and skiiers taking advantage of the snow. we climbed to the top of the snow pile and got caught in a sudden minute long hail storm. it was totally random and stopped as suddenly as it started and then it was sunny and warm again.
classic colorado weather!

fantastic friday

so here are the top 3 reasons why today has been so fantastic (besides the fact that it is friday and the weekend is almost here):
  1. talking to my husband on the phone. always a treat during the work day. i get excited when i see his number come up on the screen of my phone.

  2. the dvds for seasons 1-4 of "saved by bell" came in the mail (i had them delivered to work)! i am going to study up so i can represent a little better in future "saved by the bell" trivia games and not get schooled by my amazing husband (i had a poor showing last saturday during the spontaneous trivia session. pretty disappointing since i considered myself a more knowledgeable fan). watch out bayside...here i come!

  3. i met my old co-worker niki for lunch at "the spicy pickle" (yumm! sausalito bandido). we used to be cube neighbors and we would talk all day, everyday about what was going on in our lives...the good things and the hard things. we still email, but it's not the same...it's been a lonely 4 months since she left. i miss our talks and get excited whenever we can get together. thanks for a fun lunch niki!!

  4. i know i only said 3 reasons, but number four is a potential for the list. we are going out tonight with our friends skye and chris. skye is my old roommate and since i have a new roommate i don't see her as much. plus dave and chris are buddies and i think they like to get together as much as skye and i do. sometimes i think they could be long lost brothers.

now if i can only make it through the rest of my work day...

our second date

on saturday we went on our "second date" with kyle, a friend from church...he mentioned a third date and if things keep going well we think we'll get to meet the parents soon (our first date was the saturday before. we got breakfast burritos at a little mexican joint and saw a morning showing of "ferris bueller's day off" at a theater that features "flashback films")! he asked dave and i if we would be interested in hiking a fourteener and we said yes. i am embarrassed to say that i have grown up in colorado, the state with the most fourteeners, and this was my first one. i knew we would have to get up early, but i had no idea what i was getting myself into. i would have considered 6:00 am on a saturday morning really early to get up (even 7:00 am), but this was a whole other story. we got out of bed at 3:45 am and left a little after 4:30...yikes! we hiked mount sherman and it was a great hike! the wind was definitely chilly at times and it was a rocky hike...i think i almost rolled my ankle a few times, but it was worth it when we reached the summit and i got to sign the log for making it to the top!

we determined kyle is part mountain goat (we will now to refer to him as KMG- aka kyle mountain goat). seriously, that guy can move. this is him cruising up the mountain. dave signing the log at the summit. he looks a little confusedhappy to have made it to the top. signing the log on the top of my first fourteener!huh?!on the way down i learned something new about my husband...he is a "saved by the bell" (sbtb) expert. i loved sbtb growing up and i would consider myself pretty knowledgeable when it comes to the show, but i couldn't hold a candle to dave or kyle. on the way down it was sbtb trivia time and dave and kyle were amazing. i would love to see them challenge the mckinnon sisters in a sbtb trivia game. i think it would be a great competition. we had a great time and are so glad kyle invited us to come along.

overall it was a great day rounded out with rocking out to 80's tv show theme songs on the drive home and eating beau jos pizza, the best pizza in colorado. we were pretty much wiped the rest of saturday (although not too tired to go to target and best buy looking for some seasons of "saved by the bell" on dvd).
