st. jude's trike-a-thon

a couple of weeks ago, logan's preschool did a st. jude's trike-a-thon. we met at a park instead of school and they spent the day riding laps...or in logan's case, playing on the playground. he was so excited to ride his bike, but i guess the lure of the playground was too strong! he did bike 12 laps and thanks to some kind family members was able to raise over $100 to donate to st. jude's (which does such amazing things for kids with cancer and their families. and for free! wow)! the kid who did the most laps did 163 (or 168)! and the funny part (well, maybe not for his mom) is that she had said she would donate $1 to st. jude's for every lap he did! i don't think she was expecting for him to do that many!!
of course emma had to get in on some of the action. and i had to take a picture of logan's crush, kara, in her cute helmet! she was a maniac and did 112 laps (i think she did the second most laps of all the kids)!
we hear a lot about lily and kara! logan loves these girls! and i just had to laugh at how both girls struck a pose the second i requested a picture!

starfest

every year denver hosts starfest, a sci fi convention. our old bishop and his wife put the convention on and so over the last 5 years or so, both dave and i have attended (although never together). this year was a momentous occasion however because dave took logan and emma for the first time. for a couple of kids who are very into star wars (especially logan), it was an amazing experience (and i think it made their dad pretty happy too)!
anna and a jedi knight
punching jar jar binks!
there was a girl dressed up as hans from frozen there and when she saw emma dressed as anna, ran up to her in character and was fawning all over her!
emma called the storm trooper a "mommy storm trooper" since she was a girl!
and the day after starfest was star wars day (may the fourth) and the kids had to show their star wars pride!
i think starfest was a hit and they'll be back next year!

easter time fun

easter weekend was full of fun activities like dying eggs (note to self: don't bother mixing vinegar and water to dye the eggs. stick with straight vinegar. the colors are way more vibrant), 2 easter egg hunts (1 at nana and papa's with the van noys & the east's annual hunt), and hunting for their baskets to see what the easter bunny brought (this year it was new pajamas and ring pops)! for the month of april, leading up to easter, we read (and reread) the easter story to help the kids learn the real reason we celebrate easter.
