photo dump

i was looking through iPhoto and found some random pictures that never made it onto the blog. so here is a random post of some of them

autumn leaves

mohawk...the morning after

playing the djembe drum with cousin ava

watching a show at nana and papa's on the sled

story time with nana and some cousins

watching our picture slide show screensaver. logan loves it and asks to watch it frequently. since 98% of the pictures are of him i am constantly hearing him say "nonan" (logan) when he sees a picture of himself.

cupcake time. it's hard to believe his betrothed is already one!

what's better than one hat? how about two?! sporting grandpa gg's hat before bed (over his own hat)

logan's favorite thing to do lately (besides look at pictures): filling up his dump truck with tons of his toys (or books or sippy cup or blanket), pulling the lever and watching it dump. it provides great entertainment for logan multiple times a day. it seems to have been a successful christmas present (at least for a month following christmas)!

happy birthday dave!

i planned on doing a nice tribute to dave on his birthday. it was january 20th, so you can guess how well that went. hopefully dave doesn't doubt my love for him since he didn't get his birthday tribute post. i did try to make it a special day. i snuck away while he was showering to get "birthday" donuts and then he opened his present before he went to work.
please note the winnie the pooh gift bag
. not every 29 year old is lucky enough to score one of those (or most other 29 year olds don't have such a cheap wife who just uses a leftover bag from their one year olds birthday).

dave had been hounding me for weeks for clues about what he was getting and i wouldn't tell him a thing (because i stink at giving clues and always give it away and then i am bummed because he figured out what his present is. he knows this about me which is why he asks for clues). i often struggle to know what to get dave for presents but i was so excited about this one. i knew he was going to love it and i couldn't wait for him to open it. i had a jedi robe made for him (yes, he is a total star wars geek) and as i expected, it was a hit!!

that night we went out to dinner for burgers and fries at larkburger (yum!) with dave's family

logan will never complain about a dinner that is solely made up of fries (he gets that from his dad)

after dinner we went back to our house from brownies and ice cream. i had meant to stop on the way home from dinner to get candles and totally forgot. so dave had to blow out a "1" birthday candle (also leftover from logan's party). man, i kinda suck!

getting a little help blowing out all those candles!

even though it is over a week past his birthday i still can't help but give a little "tribute" (because he sure deserves it). i am so grateful dave was born 29 years ago. he is truly my best friend and has brought so much happiness and laughter into my life (lots and lots of laughter). he is hardworking, the best dad, a wonderful priesthood leader in our home, he's always working to improve himself, he knows random facts about lots of different things (i learn lots from him), he has great dimples...and eyes...he's just really good looking :), he is patient, he helps around the house, he lets me put my cold feet on him (not really, but i do it anyway), he puts up with me always running late (even though it drives him crazy), he's okay having cereal if dinner doesn't turn out (or just doesn't happen), he is supportive and always makes me feel loved. of course there's so much more, but i figure that is sufficient for the blogosphere (maybe more than sufficient, i might have lost some readers before the end).
i love you david james! you're my favorite and my everything!

buster

on jauary 7th dave's grandpa, buster, passed away.
side note: his name really isn't buster, but when dave was little his grandpa would call him buster. in response, dave used to call him buster back and the name stuck.
while buster had been having some health problems and was in the hospital, it still was shocking when we got the news he had passed away. he was a kind and cheerful man until the end (even the nurses in the hospital who took care of him for only a few days were touched by his kindness). it is comforting to know he is no longer in pain even though it is sad he is gone.

four generations of wessler men when logan was just 2 days old: buster, pete, dave and logan
the funeral was a beautiful tribute to buster's long life (he would have been 93 in may) spent in the service of jesus christ. the service was a beautiful reminder of the hope and peace that jesus christ brings into our lives. i loved learning more about him and wished i could have seen him give a sermon back in the day (he was a lutheran minister).

if there was a silver lining to the sad occasion it was getting to spend time with a lot of family. following the funeral service, members of their church prepared a delicious meal and we got to spend a lot of time visiting (and of course taking pictures).

logan kept busy running up and down a wheelchair ramp and across the stage during the luncheon.
we were just happy he was happy since he had missed his naps!

it is always comforting at times like these to know that this isn't it, that death isn't the end. there is hope and peace available through jesus christ and families can be forever. i'm so grateful for that knowledge. i am grateful to know that jesus christ broke the bands of death and because of him we will live again and can be with those we love!

meeting sophia

a few weeks ago erin and john came into town with their new little baby sophia. we were so excited to meet her. she is darling!

we were pretty enamored with her.

we weren't the only ones.
logan loved sophie! he loved being right by her as she sat in the bouncer and was always looking for her when she was in another room (like when she was napping in one of the bedrooms and we found logan in there just hanging out with her). he still asks about her every couple of days even though they are now back in utah. on occasion he would give her kisses...or else just be up in her face.

showing pappy his belly (and his "outie" belly button...a recent development). he's a big fan of lifting up his shirt and showing his belly these days.

this was his first time being around such a tiny baby and he did pretty well. we're hoping his love of baby sophie will extend to his new little sister who will be arriving in a couple of month (and will most likely rock his world).

logan testing out the bouncer. i'm sure we'll find him "testing" out a lot of the baby's stuff in the coming months (excuse the crazy eye. apparently the flash is reflecting off it just right).

gymnastics

while my whole family was in town for christmas we headed to the local rec center for open play in the gymnastics room...twice! it was crazy and awesome and logan had a blast!

his gymnastics "experience" prepped him for a birthday party he attended at gymboree a couple of weeks ago. i love watching him grow up and experience new things!
